It was July of 2003, and unhappy with his current job and on the search
for a new opportunity, founding partner Craig Pettigrew began his
search for new and exciting opportunities. As a result of his efforts
he came across a dive shop for sale in Cozumel, MX. Being an avid
diver himself, he immediately emailed the information to several of
his friends, telling them what a great chance this was to buy a dive
shop, move to Cozumel, and live the leisure lifestyle he had been
searching for!! With his entrepreneurial spirit at its peak, he checked
his emails to find 2 responses:
“That is the dumbest idea I have ever heard. Now get back
to work.”
and….
“Hey you might have something there.”
The latter and most welcomed response was from Chad Bope, a friend,
fellow diver, and founding partner of ReserveDiving.com. As their
search continued, they realized that the Dive Operation business was
filled with businesses for sale all around the world. After brainstorming
idea’s on how they could break from the monotony of their day
to day work life, the two began the journey to create a unique business,
the McDonald’s of diving, that is “Create the same unique
dive experience, regardless of the dive destination.” As such
the two jetted off to Cozumel, MX to evaluate their first anchor location.
Realizing that their quest was no easy feat, the two began to brainstorm
what other opportunities existed in the diving industry and set out
on their trip to understand every aspect of the diving industry. After
several days of research in Cozumel and Playa Del Carmen, (rough we
know) the same questioned was posed: “What would you need to
grow your business?” The answers were all the same. “An
economical way to market our shops and services to divers around the
world.” The dive operators idea was an 800 number. Our idea
was ReserveDiving.com! Thus how the adventure was born.
ReserveDiving.com was formed in September 2003 to serve two basic
purposes:
Provide dive operators the ability to market themselves to consumers
they would not otherwise have reached through traditional marketing
channels
Provide divers the ability to quickly and effectively compare
dive operator prices, qualities, amenities, and locations at the
most popular diving sites around the world.
And so after wadding thru the typical struggles and pitfalls of
taking an idea, developing and building it into a viable business,
ReserveDiving has launched, and is ready to become the world’s
leading Diver Reservation Network.
We are excited about the journey ahead and know that it will not
be possible without the continued support of the ReserveDiving team,
